Some of our teacher friends had a baby last week. Last Sunday at church, we pulled up and saw their car and I was sad for them - I knew how badly the mom wanted to have the baby that weekend - in fact, she had had a doctor's appointment the Friday before and she was really hoping they'd just keep her there. So I told her I was kind of sad to see her at church, and she said it was OK, because there was an end in sight - they were going to induce her that coming Wednesday. She said she was done working, and that she was going to keep her 2 year old home too, and spend time just the two of them, because it would never be that way again.
And then it hit me. Any night we have, could, in theory, be the last night we have as a family of 3. We might get a call one day to come get our baby, without warning, and *POOF*, our family of 3 is gone. Now, don't get me wrong, that's what we're hoping and praying for. But at the same time, it's going to be a huge adjustment to become a family of 4.
One one hand, I hope it does turn out that way, because I'm the sort that would dwell for weeks, knowing the day was coming, and turn it into a sob fest of "9 more days of just me and my B-man"... and not enjoy any of it. If it just happens, it's done and over with and I don't have time to dwell and be sad. (AND REALLY - It's what we're hoping and praying for - but any of you parents of more than one child know what I mean! Change can be hard. Especially since we've been a family of 3 for over 5 years now! But trust me when I say that yes, we are very, very excited.)
On the other hand, I really want to enjoy the last days of us being a family of 3. Quality time. Special time. Time we won't be able to go back to once our baby is here with us.
I guess we'll treat each day as our "last day" of being a family of 3. It will be special. It will be bonding. It will be memory making. And if our baby doesn't find us for another year, we'll have a year full of great times. As a family of 3.

What a great perspective!
Kara I am praying for your family and hope that day that you become a family of 4 is VERY soon, but I love your attitude about spending your time while you wait!! This post was such an inspiration for me today. Each of us should spend every day like it is special becuase none of us really knows how much time we have with the ones we love. Thank you!
I love this post. I really hope this is the year you guys become a family of four <3
